The Mason-Dixon Guards were formed in Kent County, Delaware in 2009 for the purpose of being a patriotic, historical, educational, benevolent, non-political, non-racial, and non-sectarian organization. Our parent organization, the SCV was formed in 1896. We are a not-for-profit organization, qualifying under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
We meet monthly. Activities include locating and preserving veterans’ graves, conducting historical research, participating in local events such as Dover Days and Harrington Heritage Day, presenting living history displays, attending parades such as Gettysburg Remembrance Day, and of course educating the public about our ancestors - Confederate soldiers, and the various reasons they fought and died.
Each year we award the H.L. Hunley Award to deserving JROTC cadets at Delaware high schools.
We support the Delaware Confederate Soldiers monument located at the Marvel Museum, South Bedford Street, Georgetown, Delaware (Link) http://marvelmuseum.com/
Membership is available to all male descendants, lineal or collateral, at least 12 years of age, of those who served in the Confederate Army or Navy, who served honorably. For details, contact us.
